Flying to Geneva & Transfer to Chamonix

The nearest airport to the Chamonix Valley is Geneva which can be reached from most international airports in the UK. The flight is around 90 minutes. Once at Geneva you will need to transfer from the airport to the valley; this can be achieved in a number of ways:

Taxi & Minibus Services  There are various services between Geneva and  Chamonix. They will meet your flight and transport you to your hotel or campsite anywhere in the valley. The following website lists a large number of companies:

www.chamonix.net

Car hire Chamonix is about an hour's drive from Chamonix. The above website lists various companies. The advantage with a Swiss company ( www.easycar.com included ) is that the cars have a Swiss motorway sticker. It is easier and quicker to get to the French border with one!

Coach There are regular services run by SAT between  Geneva Airport and Chamonix Railway Station. You can buy a ticket at their desk in the Arrivals area. There phone number is 0033 450 530 115.

Driving to Chamonix

Allow 8-10 hours from the French Channel ports using autoroutes. The fastest route from Calais goes via Reims, Dijon and Bourg-en-Bresse via the A39 then A40 to Chamonix. Tolls cost about £ 40 each way. This could be a cheap option for a group so if you would like to drive and want to be put in contact with other clients, please let me know; I will only give out your contact details at your request.

Train to Chamonix

There are two options after using the Eurostar from London to Paris:

  • Take the sleeper or TGV direct to St. Gervais - Le Fayet in France then a local train to Chamonix (about 45 minutes);

  • Take the TGV to Martigny in Switzerland and change there for a very scenic local train to Chamonix (about one hour).

Coach to Chamonix

Eurolines run regular coach services from London Victoria to Chamonix, changing at Lyon. Total travel time is approximately 20 hours. For further information go to www.eurolines.com

Lost Baggage

Occasionally baggage has been sent to the wrong airport on the outward flight. These items are usually forwarded on the Monday. With the help of a local shop, we can kit you out till then. If this happens, instruct the Geneva baggage office to send bags direct to your Hotel and give them my telephone number:
